ESKOM GAGS EARTHLIFE Earthlife Africa took Eskom to court in an attempt to gain access to information regarding the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor. Earthlife believes that the public have a right to know as Eskom is a public company. Earthlife received some information from Eskom, which Eskom now wants back. Eskom claims the documents were given by mistake and that they contain trade secrets. Not only do Eskom want the documents back, on Friday afternoon Eskom got an Interdict against Earthlife Africa preventing them from publishing, disseminating or otherwise dealing with the information received. Eskom are now desperately trying to undo their mistake. The Interdict also prevents any third parties who may have received the information from publishing, distributing or dealing with it in any way. Earthlife Africa believes that this information is not commercially confidential nor does it constitute trade secrets. It is vital that this information is made available to the public and to government. It is in the public?s interest to know what is in these documents. Earthlife now cannot reveal what was in those documents as they have been silenced-apartheid style. However the documents had been circulated to many people, including journalists and it would be impossible to track down everyone who has a copy. Business Day wrote an article about it so it seems it is already in the public domain. Eathlife will be heard in court on the 18th October where they will oppose the interdict. ?? |
